PT Alam Energy Renewables (Alam Energy) has completed a 5.0MWp (DC) rooftop solar power plant for PT Kao Indonesia (Kao Indonesia), the Indonesian subsidiary of Kao Corporation (Kao), and completion ceremony was held on May 28, 2025.
In this project, Alam Energy installed a 5.0MWp industrial roof-mounted solar power system covering a total area of approximately 22,000㎡ for the Kao Indonesia Karawang plant located in Karawang, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. The electricity generated by this power plant will be used by Kao Indonesia. The installation of the solar power system at the Kao Indonesia Karawang plant by Alam Energy has been carried out in two phases, and with the completion of this second phase, the total output is now approximately 6.5MWp.
Kao Indonesia will be able to benefit from price-competitive clean renewable energy without having to undertake initial investments such as the cost of installing solar power generation equipment. Additionally, as Indonesia’s main method of power generation relies heavily on coal-fired power, switching a portion of electricity consumption to renewable energy is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 7,791 tons per year during the contract period for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 combined. This will also contribute to the Indonesian government’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
Shoichi Hasegawa, President Director of Kao Indonesia stated, “Kao Indonesia proudly inaugurates Solar Power System Facility in its factory at Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC). This coincides with the 40th anniversary celebration of Kao Indonesia’s journey and serves as a tangible manifestation and significant step in the Company’s ESG strategy under the Decarbonization pillar, aiming to contribute to carbon emission reduction by prioritizing renewable energy. This supports the realization of the Kirei Lifestyle, where the people of Indonesia can enjoy a cleaner, healthier, and peace of mind in a sustainable environment in their daily life. Kao Indonesia hopes that this collaboration will bring tangible benefits in improving the quality of life for society and creating a more sustainable environment”
